Welcome from the Head of Parliament’s Education Service

Welcome to the Speaker’s School Council Awards – your chance to tell Parliament about all the great things your School Council is doing!

Your school council is like a mini Parliament, letting you debate and change the things that matter to you. The competition is a celebration of team work, passion, innovation – and the power of democracy! I’m always impressed and inspired by the entries, and this year we want it to be bigger and better than ever. We want you to nominate a project that has made a real difference to your school, your environment or your local community, and to shout about your achievements. Winners get the opportunity to visit Parliament and to meet the Speaker of the House of Commons.

We want to hear about the great work that school councils are doing up and down the country. So tell us – how do you represent the needs of your school or community? What changes have you brought about? And how do you make your voice heard?

The competition opens on 22 September 2014. Check out the website - we’ve got loads of resources to help you.

And good luck – I look forward to seeing your entry!
